  • Marriage certificate

  • Certificate e.g. school or university certificates
  • Court judgments

FAQ - Online Translation Service

1. General questions

What is a certified translation?

A simple or machine translation is not sufficient for a certified translation, which is officially recognised by government offices, authorities, courts or the police. A sworn translator is required, who is authorised to provide your certified translation with an official stamp. A certified translation is legally valid if the translated text corresponds exactly to the original.

When do I need a certified translation?

Sometimes you need translations for official business, for authorities or when you apply for something.

Can I come to your office in person?

That is not necessary. You can do everything via our website ‘Clicktranslate’ and using your smartphone.

How can I send you the documents?

Please upload the documents to be translated to the app or take a photo of each page of the documents.

Do I have to provide the original for a certified translation?

Usually not. A digital version, such as a scan or a photo, is sufficient. Sometimes you have to hand in the original translation, especially at embassies or consulates.

2. Translators

What are sworn translators?

Sworn translators in Germany are certified specialised translators. They have taken a general oath at a regional court, higher regional court or public authority. These translators are certified and have the necessary qualifications and authorisation to translate and certify content into certain languages (stamp).

4. Costs and payment

What counts as more than one page in the case of multi-page documents?

If you order a certified translation from us, we will ask you for the number of pages in the original for some document types. What is and is not a page can sometimes be unclear. When it comes to certification, this is what we mean by a page:

  • A page is a part of a sheet of paper. It doesn't matter how many words are on it. If a sheet of paper has two sides (front and back) and both sides are printed on, then they count as two pages.
  • The size of the paper is irrelevant. A large page (A4) counts the same as a small page (A5).
  • We count the pages of your original document. This means that if you upload a sheet of paper on which two small pages are scanned, we count that as two pages.

I entered an incorrect number of pages – what should I do?

You don't have to do anything. Just let us know if you notice a little earlier than we do.

The price of the certified translation depends on the number of pages. If you have indicated too few or too many pages, we will have to stop the order.

We will then create a new order for you with the correct number of pages. You will receive a link from us to make the payment. As soon as you have paid, we will start the translation.

5. Certification and stamp

What does a certified translation look like?

A certified translation is signed and stamped by a sworn translator.

Is a certified translation recognised by the authorities?

Yes, if it is signed and stamped by a sworn translator.

What are the advantages of a certified translation?

A certified translation is officially valid. It is accepted by official authorities and courts. This makes many things go faster. Our translations are done by certified and recognised translators. A certified translation is often needed for important documents abroad.

Do we offer translations with an apostille?

No, we do not offer translations with apostille.
An apostille is a special certification for documents. You need this if you want to use your documents in another country.
But don't worry! You can apply for the apostille yourself. You can do this at the district court where the translator is sworn in. You can find this information on the stamp of the translation.
If your document already has an apostille, we will of course translate it as well.

6. Delivery time, scope of delivery and validity

When will I get my translation?

You can order your translation at any time in our webshop. We work from Monday to Friday. It usually takes 3 days for us to have your translation ready.

If you need a certified translation, we will send it to you first as a PDF by email. After that, you will receive the original by post. In Germany, this usually takes 1 to 2 days. The exact time depends on the postal service.

How do I get my translation?

You will receive your certified translation in two ways:
  • First, by email as a PDF – This is quick. Often, this PDF is all you need. You can forward it directly when it is needed.
  • Later as a paper printout (hard copy) – Many authorities want to have the translation on paper. That is why we also send you the translation by post as a paper printout.
You get always both: the PDF and the paper. It is not currently possible to place an order for just one of the two options.

Which documents can be ordered by ‘express’?

You can get a 24-hour express translation for these documents:

  • birth certificate
  • marriage certificate
  • death certificate
  • driving licence

This quick translation is only available for certain languages.

Can I select the express option for just one document?

No, you cannot. The express option (24 hours) only applies if all the products in your shopping basket have this option. We cannot deliver individual documents faster.

What happens if I order an express translation over the weekend?

If you order an express translation over the weekend, you will receive it on the next working day. Working days are Monday through Friday.

For example: You order an express translation on Saturday. Then you will receive the translation on Monday. We will send it to you by email as a PDF file.
