Certified translation and apostille: what is the difference?
When you need to use a document abroad, you may encounter the terms certified translation, apostille and legalization. These are different services. Whether you need one or more of them depends on the document, destination country and receiving organization.
What does a certified translation provide?
An authorized translator confirms that the translation is accurate and complete, using a certification statement, signature and stamp. This confirmation concerns the translation. It is not automatically an apostille and does not replace any required certification of a copy.
What should I ask beforehand?
Ask the receiving organization which original document and translation it needs. Clarify whether additional supporting evidence is required and in what order the documents must be prepared. Ask for specific requirements. We cannot recommend one universally suitable process without knowing the document and its intended use.
What can I order through Clicktranslate?
You can order a professional translation and select certification with mailing if needed. Obtaining an apostille or legalization is not part of the online checkout. If an apostille is already attached to your document and should be translated, submit it with all other required pages.
Discuss special requirements with our team
If you are unsure which documents need translating, contact us before ordering. Tell us where you intend to submit them and what requirements you have been given. The receiving organization remains responsible for specifying the applicable requirements; this information does not replace individual guidance from the relevant authority.
Ask about your documents or upload an existing document to get a price.
